A consultation in your home usually lasts 1.5-2 hours. This includes a complete history, weight check with digital baby scale, assessment of latch and intake as needed, hands on assistance to achieve a more comfortable latch, a personalized care plan addressing any issues, a report to both mom and baby;s health care providers if desired. Plenty of time will be allowed for questions. Follow -up assistance by phone or email is included until the initial issues are resolved.

Most breastfeeding issues can be resolved with just one more visit. However, if your baby is premature, there may be more complex issues o if you would prefer more hands-on follow-up care, an additional consultation can be scheduled. This follow-up consultation generally would last 30 minutes- 1 hour and include re-assessing o the situation, adjusting the care plan as needed and answering questions.

The class generally lasts 3 hours and includes information on why breastfeeding is important for mother and baby. You will learn the basics of positioning and latching the newborn baby, how to recognize and address problems that may arise, how to select and fit a good nursing bra, comparison of breast pumps and how to decide whether or not you even need a pump, how and when to introduce a bottle, how to prepare for returning to work, how to nurture, and not just feed your baby through breastfeeding. We encourage moms to invite any family members who will be providing support after the baby arrives to attend this class with her.
